ATS Grade Levels
Kindergarten
The Home Teacher submits a detailed report of observations with specific daily work. The Advisory Teacher returns two letters—one to the Home Teacher and one to the student. The Advisory Teacher evaluates the child’s progress for this critical developmental year, and offers instructional strategies to help the child realize his potential.
First & Second
The Advisory Teacher provides valuable guidance by confirming the student’s work is progressing appropriately and highlights any areas for individual attention. For example, does his handwriting demonstrate appropriate development of fine motor skills? The Advisory Teacher works with the Home Teacher to address any specific concerns or observations regarding the child’s progress.
Third, Fourth, & Fifth
In addition to confirming the student’s work is progressing appropriately, the comments of the Advisory Teacher guide the student in developing the skills of written expression. The elements of good composition and grammar skills are reinforced through personalized critiques of the student’s assignments based on the Advisory Teacher’s experience with children working at the same grade level.
Sixth, Seventh, & Eighth
The Advisory Teacher provides support to the Home Teacher in the student’s development of independent study skills. As the student’s work in composition and math become more complex, the Home Teacher supervises the student’s day-to-day skill development in note-taking, test preparation, and the ability to stay on task. The Advisory Teacher reinforces this with a detailed review of subject tests and compositions while encouraging the student to progress beyond his current level of skill mastery. For students moving on to high school or returning to a traditional school setting, transcripts demonstrating academic achievement during these years are crucial.
