Volunteer Opportunities

 

If you are interested in volunteering, please download a volunteer form  and return it to the Calvert School Parents' Association box in the business office or mail to Calvert School, 105 Tuscany Road, Baltimore, MD 21210. Please be sure the envelope is marked "CSPA."

 

An Event Coordinator/Chair will call you to confirm availability. You may also call the Development Office at 410-243-6054 x120 for further information or questions.

 

CAMPUS COMMUNITY

 

ADMISSION OPEN HOUSE (November 1, 2008 2:00 p.m.): Admission Office

 

Spread the word! Volunteers are needed to welcome and to share the many positive experiences with prospective parents.

 

ANNUAL FUND (fall/winter):  Development Office

 

Keep the cost of tuition down! Volunteers are needed to assist the Development Department with the Annual Fund Phonathon on one of three nights (with fabulous food and drink). Volunteers assist by making phone calls to friends of Calvert (alumni, parents, past parents, etc.) for donations.

 

CALVERT DAY FAIR (May 16, 2009 11:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.): Co-Chairs Connie Unger & Blair Iodice

 

Spend a fun and (almost) free day at School with your family! Held during Alumni Weekend, the Fair is open to all families, alumni, faculty, and staff with free admission. Activities include moonbounces, rock climbing, pony rides, DDR, fun flush, races, face painting, and many other activities. Picnic lunch items are available for $1.00 per item. Mr. Softee ice cream available all day!!

 

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Be a Calvert Day Fair class coordinator for your child's class
  • Schedule volunteers to man the booths/activities in half an hour shifts for their class. To maintain this event and because it requires so much parent participation, volunteers are needed from each class to manage the booth in ½ hour shifts. Please help us assure that this highly attended and popular event may continue and be enjoyed by our families.
  • Balloon sign-up
  • Help with Set-Up the day of the Fair
  • Arrange balloons
  • Decorate tables
  • Help with signs

 

 

FACULTY & STAFF APPRECIATION DAY (April 28, 2009 8:00 - 9:30 a.m.): Co-Chairs Debra Nelson & Kathy Davis  

 

Show your thanks! Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week recognizes and thanks all Calvert employees with a special breakfast in the Atrium which includes a gift certificate for a local store such as Target and special prizes through a "pick from the hat" and morning treats throughout the school year.

 

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • During the breakfast - monitor lower school students during a video in both the library and auditorium
  • During the breakfast - monitor middle school students in classrooms during a study hall
  • Decorate the Atrium
  • Provide food and beverages for morning treats in both the lower and middle school faculty rooms

 

 

GRANDPARENTS' DAY -Lower School (November 26, 2008 - morning): Chair, Dawn Litrenta

 

Experience the pride! Volunteers are needed to welcome and direct grandparents to various activities and locations. Volunteers attend one orientation meeting and are assigned to cover areas of the School in shifts.

 

  

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS (all year): Librarian

 

Help the students! Volunteers are needed in lower and middle school libraries when checking in and out books, to cover and shelve books, as well as to help with creating bulletin board displays. Volunteers assist three hours each week.

  

MENTOR FAMILY (spring): Chair, Robyn Little & Alex McMahon

 

Welcome the newest members of the Calvert family! Volunteers are needed to contact new families/students with a written note and/or phone call to welcome them to the school community and to help familiarize them with how it all works. A mentor family volunteer plays an important role in the smooth adjustment and overall experience of new families.

 

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT EVENTS (all year): Class Reps

 

Check it out! Volunteers are needed to assist in organization of and to chaperone 5th grade activity nights and middle school mixers.

 

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL REFRESHMENTS for ATHLETIC EVENTS (all year ): Chair, Karen Banta 

 

Get in the spirit! Middle school parents are needed to bring light refreshments to "home" games and to serve them to Calvert athletes as well as the opposing team and parents.

 

 

OTHER (all year)

 

Lend a hand! Volunteers in all classes are encouraged to help class reps as necessary.

 

 

 

FUNDRAISING

 

SIP & SWING (February 21, 2009 7:00 - 11:30 p.m.): Co-Chairs, Carty Hebert and Wesley Finnerty; Silent Auction Chair, Stacey Vandiver

 


Join the fun! The Sip & Swing is the CSPA's premier fundraising event. The adults only evening social event provides a venue for parents, alumni, faculty, and staff to gather in a casual setting to enjoy delicious food, wine and beer tastings, music, and one another's company in a transformed middle school gym. The event includes a $5,000 Tuition Raffle, Silent Auction, and other fun offerings. Faculty and Staff are invited compliments of the CSPA.

Volunteers are needed to serve on the general committee in the following areas of interest:
• Silent Auction items
• Gym decoration
• Gym set-up
• Gym take down
• Auction/raffle/greeting tables

 

 

USED UNIFORM BANK (spring)Co-Chairs, Jessica Dorsey and Kelly Zink

 

Outfit the students! Volunteers are needed to collect and organize donated uniforms and work at the sales table during Calvert Day and in the soon-to-be opened "Calvert Closet." This permanent used uniform store will be located in the Lower School and will operate monthly.
