Calvert School - Since 1897

A Letter From the President

August 1, 2008

Dear Calvert Parents,

It is my pleasure, once again, to write to you as President of the Calvert School Parents' Association.  We all can be proud and gratified that our organization continues to grow and fulfill its mission. Enclosed in this mailing you will find our updated 2008-09 brochure, which outlines the purpose, philosophy, and goals of the CSPA and details the many volunteering opportunities available to you. Your involvement helps make Calvert the wonderful place it is for our children to grow and learn! Please take a moment to read about ways to serve our Calvert community and then complete and return your volunteer sign-up form. You may drop off your sign-up form at the front desk of the Lower or Middle School or mail it to the School's address with "CSPA" on the envelope.

The CSPA enjoyed many successes last year, including the Sip & Swing, Grandparents' Day, Calvert Day, Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day, Used Uniform Sale, Mentor Families, and other activities that made positive impacts on the School. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of our parents, we were able to make a donation to the School's Annual Fund in the amount of $7,500 and an additional donation of $2,500 to the Matt and Abby Young Scholarship Fund.

The Young Scholarship donation was made in Jane Harlan's name, to honor her many years of superb service to our Parents' Association.  As many of you know, Jane was instrumental in the formation of our Parents' Association six years ago, and has served each year since on the Executive Committee as Administrative Liaison.  Jane's passion for Calvert, knowledge, industriousness, and sterling personality made working alongside her delightful.  The Committee joins me in expressing our tremendous gratitude for Jane's guidance and friendship.  On behalf of the CSPA, I extend our heartiest thanks to Jane for her devoted assistance, as well as our best wishes for happiness in retirement.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I am happy to introduce the 2008-2009 CSPA Executive Committee:  Sue Waters-President, Helen Harchick-Vice President, Yvonne Tanner-Reitz-Secretary, Kelly Finney-Treasurer, Kate Thorne-Lower School Class  Representative Coordinator, Beth Nguyen-Middle School Class Representative Coordinator, Wesley Finnerty-Parent Volunteer Coordinator, Maria Swindell-Parent Network Representative, Dan Buccino-Ad-hoc member, Matt Wyskiel-Ad-hoc member, and Stephanie Coldren--Administration Liaison, Ex-Officio.  Welcome, Stephanie!

Please be sure to check the CSPA page on the website for information on upcoming events and activities throughout the year.  I look forward to seeing you in September and to working with you throughout the year.

                                                                                    Sincerely,

                                                                                    Sue Waters
