Where can I get information about homeschooling in my state? For more information and additional resources on legal requirements and homeschool support groups in your local area, please visit our Homeschooling Resources page.
Is a Placement Test required to enroll? Families who choose to use our Advisory Teaching Service must complete the no-cost, no-obligation General Placement Test prior to enrolling in ATS for Grades 4 and above. Based on the test results we recommend a grade level for your child. Students enrolling in ATS are required to enroll in the level we recommend. A Placement Counselor is available to discuss your child’s results. If you choose not to use ATS, your child is not required to complete a placement test; however, it will provide you with the assurance that your child is enrolling in the appropriate grade level and will achieve better results.
When can we enroll in Calvert School? We allow families to join us year-round. Many of our families keep a traditional school year and begin instruction in the fall, while others elect to join us throughout the year. If you choose to begin homeschooling mid-year, we recommend that you start at the beginning of the course. While you may move quickly through the first lessons, this will ensure that your child receives the full benefit of integrated lessons without instructional gaps. Semester courses are not available.
Our re-use courses allow families with multiple students to re-use textbooks from previous years, while receiving new Lesson Manuals, consumable materials, and academic support. Enrolled families can take advantage of this cost-saving program by purchasing used textbooks for our grade level courses from friends or the textbook exchange on our website. On each grade level page in this catalog, you will see the items included in the Re-use Course box marked with an asterisk (*). You are responsible for making sure you have all the other items on that list.
What is an Additional Student Kit? Additional Student Kits address the needs of families who would like to use selected enrichment courses with more than one student. These kits are only available to families who have previously enrolled or are in the process of enrolling in the full enrichment course. This cost-saving option provides the additional child all the consumable materials needed to have the full academic experience.
Do you offer any payment options? Calvert School offers two payment plans that allow families to extend the payment of their tuition over a period of time when using a major credit card. Both plans charge an administrative fee equal to 5% of the order total. The first plan requires a 50% deposit and 6 monthly payments. The second option requires 20% down and 3 monthly payments. With either option, the monthly payments are automatically taken from the credit card account you provide upon enrollment in the payment plan.
What is Calvert’s refund policy? We hope you will be thrilled with your course; however, if you need to return the course to us, a refund of the tuition fee, less a handling charge, will be issued if the complete course (books and supplies) is returned unused. To ensure proper credit, please contact a Client Service Representative to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization Number. Refunds must be requested within 60 days of enrollment. Cancellations of enrollment in the Advisory Teaching Service will be refunded on a pro-rated basis, less a handling charge. Refunds can take up to 45 days to process.
Is there a professional educator available for me to speak with? Yes—our Education Counselors are available to all Calvert families, before and after enrollment. They can answer general questions, as well as respond to specific curriculum and homeschooling concerns. You do not have to enroll in ATS to speak with an Education Counselor, nor is there an additional fee to use this valuable service. Education Counselors also serve as a communication link between ATS teachers, who are not available by phone, and their students.
Do you keep records of my child’s work? This is an advantage of the Advisory Teaching Service—we keep records of our enrolled students. If your child is enrolled in ATS, you will receive a certificate of completion, which provides documentation of the successful completion of an accredited curriculum. You may also request a transcript. If your child is not enrolled in ATS, we can provide a letter of enrollment in the course you ordered, but we are not able to confirm that the work in the course was successfully completed.
Can your program be tailored for my child’s specific needs? Calvert offers the best combination of an integrated curriculum with flexible options, allowing you, the Home Teacher, to meet the needs of your individual student. For example, math placement, scheduling, and the presentation of the materials to address a specific learning style can all be adapted as needed. Day to day, you set the pace, completing some subject work quickly, and spending additional time where your student needs more focus. Regardless of the adaptations, the student will still need to master the material presented in his specific course and be able to demonstrate in the tests what he has learned if enrolled in ATS. If your child has special needs, Education Counselors are available to help you evaluate if the course is appropriate for your child.
Do you print the materials when I order them? To ensure that families receive their courses as quickly as possible, Calvert School publishes and prints course materials in advance. As part of this process, Lesson Manuals and other Calvert-published materials are typically printed once a year, usually in preparation for its next catalog release. With each new release of a Lesson Manual and other materials, we incorporate all of the latest updates, corrections, and improvements. Many of those updates and improvements come to us from our families, who are always welcome to send us updates or suggestions on lessons at errors@calvertservices.org. Also, our Curriculum Development staff and Education Counselors are constantly reviewing our materials to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
We invite our families throughout the homeschool year to visit the Curriculum Updates page on our Website, where we list by grade any updates that require more immediate updating affect instruction, particularly those related to answer keys and tests or clarity of lessons. Monthly checks of the Curriculum Updates page can ensure a family has all crucial updates and improvements.
The standard delivery method for international orders is Foreign Surface Mail. The cost is $75 per course. Your order will take approximately 2 to 6 months for delivery. If you require expedited shipping, visit our website, www.calvertschool.org, for pricing and delivery options. You may also e-mail us at inquiry@calvertservices.org or fax us at 410-785-3418. Allow time for customs clearance. Please note that except in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, supplies are excluded in international shipments because they delay customs clearance of your course and can add additional customs duties. If you elect to have supplies included in your course, you must request them when enrolling.
