King Arthur Through the Ages
A well-prepared CD-ROM dealing with all aspects of the legendary character. An excellent time line pictures the flow of literature above the date line and the history and culture below. A click on each object reveals basic information about it. King Arthur has been at the heart of a great deal of legend created by writers including Tennyson and Twain. A number of selections are available to hear while reading on the screen. A game of finding the holy grail tests what has been learned. After spending half a day or more with the program one would know a great deal about this family of literature as well as have a good overview of British history.
Would I buy it for my kids (if they were still learning at home)? Because of my special concern that the imaginary can become addictive, polluting the springs of spiritual growth I would not. Some of you will feel differently. Maybe, to understand literary allusions, one could justify an overview study of common fictional literary works. This could come at the end of the teen years.
