Discovering Art
Open the world of art to your child through the Discovering Art video course. Your children will learn new ways of observing their world and expressing creativity through the visual arts. Whether you are considering the course for one child or a group, Discovering Art provides the basis for an understanding and appreciation of the visual arts that will bring a lifelong enjoyment and insight.
Discovering Art is designed for all students in the fourth through eighth grades. The 32 lessons in the series present the elements of art and the principles of design, which are illustrated by hundreds of paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, and photographs. The video lessons are designed for weekly viewing with a variety of activities, presented in the guidebook, to be completed throughout the week.
The art course includes over six hours of video instruction on six VHS cassettes. A guidebook compliments the video lessons with complete directions for the parent/teacher, step by step project instructions written to the student, and information on highlighted artists and works of art. An art kit completes the package with over 30 art supplies the student will use to complete the assigned projects. You get exceptional quality drawing and printing tools, painting and sculpting materials, and the appropriate paper and supplies packed in a convenient, durable carrying case.
Come with Rachel, Matt, Sara, and Becky each week as they visit two artists at a studio in the old mill. Join the children as they explore line, shape, space, color, value, and texture in their environment and their art. Visit museums and art galleries. Talk with painters, sculptors, a photographer, and a computer animation artist as you watch them work. Share the excitement of holding an art show. Hands-on projects teach your child to use a variety of tools and materials and to explore different art media. Discover art together, with Calvert's video course.
