Fourth Grade
The Fourth Grade Calvert experience is a unique and thrilling one as your students will use the writing process to compose original compositions. The reading curriculum moves away from traditional anthologies and relies more on classic children’s literature, with lessons designed to increase your students’ comprehension, appreciation, and analysis. Poetry is read for pleasure and memorization.
We also proudly introduce Fourth Graders to A Child’s History of the World, the classic and entertaining book written by Virgil Hillyer, Calvert School’s first Head Master. The spelling course reviews commonly misspelled words.
In math the emphasis is on advancing your students’ understanding of
multiplication and division and fractions, and students will enter the exciting world of statistics and data.
Technology lessons cover graphs and tables and are integrated into the science program, which covers living things, electricity, and magnetism. In geography, your students will begin to work with an atlas.
