Calvert's Distance Learning Curriculum

Academic Outcomes Through More Choices

The Calvert curriculum allows educators to meet the specific educational needs of each student enrolled in a distance education program. Before beginning a course of study, students take a placement exam, including both objective tests and written composition, to evaluate concept knowledge and skills application. One of the primary objectives of the Calvert curriculum is to create a passion for learning. Calvert offers three paths to academic success.

Calvert Academic

The Calvert Academic program is designed for a student who is ready and willing to accept a challenge. The Academic program focuses on refining and expanding language arts skills that are well-established. The Academic student is able to organize information into simple and complex sentences to produce well written compositions, has excellent reading comprehension skills, and is able to work independently. Students in Academic courses will write additional, more complex compositions; and complete more advanced work with literature selections.

Calvert Scholastic

The Calvert Scholastic curriculum provides Calvert's challenging and integrated core curriculum, but it is structured in a way that gives students extra support in grammar, composition, and critical thinking. Its instructional focus meets the needs of students who require extra support in these key subject areas through additional review and skill reinforcement while maintaining the challenge of a Calvert experience.

Verticy Learning

The Verticy Learning curriculum provides academic solution for struggling readers and writers with language-based learning differences (LLDs). These LLDs affect the way the brain processes information and impact the way a child learns to read, write, hear, speak, or calculate. Verticy Learning incorporates teaching and learning techniques of the time-tested Orton-Gillingham method of multi-sensory learning. These strategies, as well as innovative reading techniques, flexible pacing by subject, and technology-based tools, assist students with LLDs in overcoming obstacles to learning.
