South Carolina Calvert Academy Update

Thank you to those families who expressed interest in enrolling in the South Carolina Calvert Academy (SCCA).  We received a strong outpouring of support from the residents of South Carolina and we remain committed to making a publicly supported Calvert option available to you and your student. Regrettably, we will not meet our goal of charter approval for the 2008/2009 school year.

As always, you may choose to enroll in the Calvert program as a private party. Another option is to pursue a Calvert Partnership arrangement in your school district. Calvert Education Services works with public school superintendents in a number of states to provide students enrolled in their districts a Calvert School education paid for by public funding. This option requires your local public school superintendent to establish a Calvert program in his or her district. If your superintendent sponsors an easy-to-implement Calvert program this summer, then that program can be available in your district for the coming school year.

Through a superintendent-sponsored program, your student is educated in the home using the Calvert curriculum with instruction led by the Learning Guide (most often the parent). The school district provides a supervising teacher who is ultimately responsible for your student’s progress and achievement.

Your superintendent may not be aware of such an option or how easy it is to establish in his or her district. Calvert is currently contacting South Carolina superintendents to give them information about Calvert Partnerships. You can help by mailing your superintendent this letter (pdf) to show your support for this type of program. Find your superintendent’s address, telephone number, and e-mail address here.

Thank you, again, for your support.

Networking With Calvert Families in Your State!

The Calvert Networking Program allows us to connect families interested in homeschooling with Calvert families in their area currently using our courses. Networking is a great way for families considering the use of Calvert materials to discuss with a family how the program works and to possibly inspect course materials.

Home school Support Groups

Home school support groups in your state are an excellent way to gain more assistance and guidance in your homeschooling endeavors. A regional support group fosters a wonderful sense on community among homeschooling families and allows for more opportunities to exchange ideas, plan group outings, and share in the overall experience of homeschooling! While Calvert supports the development of community between homeschool families, this list does not constitute affiliation between Calvert School and the groups represented below.
