DoDEA to Stop Funding Curriculum Purchases for Homeschooling Military Families at the end of the 2006/2007 School Year
There are many military families who choose to homeschool their children in order to provide a quality academic experience that is consistent from one tour of duty to another. For the last several years, the Department of Defense Education Activity agency (DoDEA) has funded the purchase of curriculum materials and supplemental homeschooling services for these families. At the end of the 2006-07 school year, DoDEA will stop funding this program.
If you feel that it is important for military families to continue to receive this benefit, you may request DoDEA to continue its mission to include supported home education. You can help by sending letters in support of continuing homeschool program funding to Dr. Joseph Tafoya, Director for the Department of Defense Education Activity, and to any senators and representatives as you deem appropriate.
We encourage you to view the draft letter to Dr. Tafoya. If you agree with the sentiments expressed in the letter, you may send it to him with your signature. Please feel free to make any changes or additions that you feel are appropriate. You may also write your own letter. Dr. Tafoya’s e-mail address is Joseph.Tafoya@hq.dodea.edu.
To send the message to U.S. congressional representatives, you can easily find email contact information at http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/. In most cases, you will have to fill out your contact information and then copy and paste the text from the body of your letter into their email system.
