Home Schooling

Many families seek a support network of other parents and friends participating in homeschooling. Support groups can make homeschooling for you and your children more enjoyable as you learn, share, and discover with other homeschooling families. They also can provide you with ideas for enriching lessons as well as other children to invite to play days and access to workshops, social events, and other activities.

Lists of local groups are often available from libraries, churches, local school district homeschooling liaisons, or other homeschoolers.

Another avenue for information about support groups and virtual support groups is the Internet. The Home School Legal Defense Association also provides lists on its website of local and state support organizations.Thousands of homeschooling parents and children are participating in e-mail based support groups, where members post messages that are sent by e-mail to members of the group as they occur or daily.

A good resource for both e-mail support groups and local support groups is Jon’s Homeschool Resource Page. The lists are up-to-date and separated by state and country.

Several Yahoo! chat groups are available for Calvert families. Although privately owned and operated, they often provide valuable support and information about successfully homeschooling with Calvert School. To participate in these Yahoo groups, you must have Yahoo e-mail account, which is available at no charge.

CalvertChristianHSers -- This group is for Christian families who are using the Calvert curriculum in their homeschool journey. We strive to be a friendly bunch who help each other not only with the academics of homeschooling, but we also strive to help each other with ideas about integrating faith and life.
