Training Your Distance Learning Team

A key element of the Calvert Navigator platform is training. Calvert provides a fully integrated, comprehensive educational program and it is imperative that both the Supervising Teacher and the parent (Learning Guide) have a command of the material, resources, and tools included. Calvert keeps your academic team "current" with a series of professional development online sessions that provide a thorough orientation to a Calvert education. Each online seminar ensures that both Supervisory Teachers and parents have the knowledge and skills needed to successfully educate a student. These are some examples of online sessions we offer several times throughout the year.

Professional Development Online "Current" Sessions

Session 1: Orientation to the Calvert Method

Calvert has been the proven leader in distance education for more than a century. We've established a standard of excellence that inspires each student to achieve. This introductory seminar focuses on the unique strengths of the Calvert Navigator. This session includes a guided tour of the lesson flow and a Calvert curriculum overview. Also covered are the roles and responsibilities of the supervising teacher, the Learning Guide, the Student, and the Calvert Education Counselor

Session 2: Getting the Most out of Calvert's Technology

Today's learners must gain not only basic core knowledge skills but they must learn to use technology to access information, work with data and communicate with teachers and peers in a virtual environment. Calvert has developed a blended learning experience that combines online resources with physical texts and manuals. This experience provides multiple approaches and systems to enhance the academic journey. This seminar will help your supervising teachers, parents, and students maximize the use of their My Calvert online portal and how to use the many tools and resources available. This session includes an overview of My Calvert, technology-based instruction, online communications tools, and the Calvert Student Information Service (online grade book, attendance tracking, pacing tools, etc.).

Session 3: Learning Maps
Calvert provides daily, weekly, bi-weekly and annual benchmarking and assessment tools to ensure content mastery. Routine interaction with your Supervisory Teacher and Education Counselor provide for immediate intervention and remediation if needed. Through continual planning and evaluation, teachers and parents are assured of favorable outcomes and academic progress. This session covers the Calvert Learning Map including placement, benchmarks, remediation, intervention, and assessments.
