Step One: Complete the online inquiry form or call the Admission Office at (410) 243-6054 x148 to receive our Viewbook and related admission materials.
Step Two: Call the Admission Office at (410) 243-6054 x148 to schedule a Testing Session for your child and register for one of our "Considering Calvert" Days.
Testing for Pilot and Sixth Age Applicants:
Individualized testing occurs weekday mornings at 9:15 a.m. during the fall and winter prior to the year your child would begin school and concludes in January. Calvert admission testing is designed for in-house use only and is not intended to be used for other purposes. The testing session lasts approximately 45 minutes. Please note: Our admission associates make the session as pleasant and comfortable for the child as possible. We often describe the session to the children as "playing games" and we encourage parents to use the same approach when talking to their child about an upcoming session.
Testing for Seventh Age through Seventh Grade Applicants:
Testing and a shadow day occur if openings are available. All Seventh Age through Seventh Grade applicants will be tested in small groups on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 9:30 a.m.
"Considering Calvert" Days:
These visiting days are for parents only. Please register to attend one or more of the following dates...
Lower School: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. (Lower School Auditorium, 105 Tuscany Road)
October 13, 2009
November 17, 2009
December 8, 2009
Middle School: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. (France- Merrick Atrium, 4300 North Charles Street)
December 2, 2009
Step Three: Complete the Application for Admission Form, the Parent Questionnaire and the Student Questionnaire (Ninth Age through Seventh Grade Applicants only). Forward the completed forms with the testing fee to Calvert School in the enclosed self- addressed envelope at least one week prior to your child's evaluation date.
The Calvert Admission Office accepts applications for admission at any time. We encourage parents to submit an application to Calvert as early as possible to ensure the child's place on the list for evaluation. There is a one-time non-refundable testing fee of $75.00. Fee waivers are available upon request.
Step Four: Complete and deliver the enclosed Transcript and Recommendation Release Form along with Common Referral Forms to your child's current school.
This form authorizes your child's current school to release copies of your child's complete transcript (if applicable) and recommendations directly to Calvert School. Recommendations from your child's teacher must be completed after December 1 and before January 15.
Step Five: The Evaluation Session
The goal of Calvert's evaluation process is to determine whether Calvert is the right school for your child to thrive and develop intellectually, morally, emotionally, and socially.
Step Six: Attend a "Considering Calvert" Day
There are three scheduled visiting days for the Lower School (Pilot Class through Tenth Age) and one scheduled visiting day for the Middle School (Fifth Grade through Eighth Grade).
Step Seven: Review Application Checklist and Important Dates
Please periodically review the Application Checklist and Important Dates to be sure that you have completed the above steps and returned the necessary forms. If you have any questions about the application process, please call us! We are always happy to help: (410) 243-6054 x148.
Once the admission process is complete, the application is considered by the Admission Committee. With a focus on personal qualities and academic readiness, the committee decides if the applicant is qualified. Decisions are made and a child may be accepted, wait listed, deferred, denied acceptance due to space limitations, or denied acceptance because the committee feels that the child's learning style and/or developmental level make him or her a "poor fit" for the school and/or the class. Decisions will be made and communicated to parents around March 1 and parents must reply by April 1.
