Admissions |
Welcome to the Calvert School admissions. We are delighted that you are interested in Calvert and we look forward to working with you, meeting your child, and acquainting you with our school. Calvert's philosophy is to give each child the foundation of basic skills that everyone needs in order to succeed in today's world and, at the same time, to stimulate the child's desire to learn, to explore, and to develop his or her own special talents. All of the above is accomplished in a very challenging but warm, nurturing environment. During the admissions process, you will have an opportunity to visit the school and observe the faculty and children interacting with one another. These pages have been designed to demystify the admissions process and to give you information about the admissions procedures. For further information or to receive a catalog please feel free to contact us at any time. We look forward to working with you,
Deborah D. Frey

Calvert School is an independent school for boys and girls. A Calvert education is rigorous and designed to challenge very capable children as well as to prepare them to become responsible individuals. It is a fast- paced, accelerated program geared for the motivated, able, and inquisitive child. Self-discipline, self-confidence, and character development are emphasized throughout the child’s years at Calvert. The goal in the admission process is to identify boys and girls who demonstrate the promise of being successful in, and making a contribution to, the program.
Listed below is a general outline of admission criteria expected of all students entering Calvert School. These criteria have been identified in previously successful students and are not designed to exclude qualified applicants with disabilities. The data collected via the admissions process is used to help the Admission Committee predict an applicant’s academic success.
Calvert considers “building a class” an important factor in final decisions. It is necessary to have a well-balanced class based on the above criteria and to consider the levels of school readiness, maturity, and skill development. Diversity is always a priority since students from different backgrounds make the class, as well as the school population more well rounded. The composition of a class is further enhanced by the addition of siblings and the children of Calvert alumni.
Calvert School admits students of all races, religions, and national or ethnic origins. Admissions policies and procedures support and comply with the Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Candidates are selected for admission, where vacancies exist, on the basis of academic and personal qualifications. All applicants will be tested. A limited number of scholarships are available, based on family need, as determined by a confidential parents' financial statement which may be obtained from the school. |
