Course Overview
In Seventh Grade, your child will continue building strong grammar and composition skills through descriptive writing. He or she will study World History from the fall of the Roman Empire to the Enlightenment. Students continue to develop vocabulary and spelling skills through Calvert’s Spelling program.
Seventh Grade Calvert Math has been newly revised to include greater emphasis on teaching students to explain the steps taken to solve a problem. The Seventh Grade Math course includes pre-algebra skills development including variables and formulas plus complex fractions, and probability and statistics.
In the Science course, your child will focus on physical science, with an emphasis on sound, light, motion, forces, and energy. Technology lessons emphasize networks, Web researching and validation, desktop publishing, and databases.
Students also expand their studies of Reading, Art, and Poetry. In Geography, your child will study thematic maps and detailed examination of the Eastern hemisphere. Art History studies continue with the third volume of A Child’s History of Art: Architecture, and in Art, your child will apply learned concepts by designing various structures.
