Course Overview
Eighth Grade students will study narrative poetry and prose that correspond to the American history program. Through this literature and our American history textbook, atlas, and geography workbooks, your child will be immersed in the country’s intellectual, physical, and political identities.
Eighth Grade Calvert Math emphasizes problem-solving steps and will help lead your student further into the exciting concepts of pre-algebra. Other topics include scientific notation, rational and irrational numbers, and graphing functions.
By this point, your childs’ writing, vocabulary, and grammar skills will be intertwined and mutually beneficial. Reading comprehension is enhanced through poetry reading.
In science the focus will be on physical, life, and Earth sciences. During technology lessons, your student will further his or her abilities in presentations, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and HTML.
You can also take advantage of our Calvert-created Learning Strategies Guidebook, which helps students develop skills for studying, organizing, test-taking, note-taking, and researching. As always, our Eighth Grade curriculum builds on the skills of earlier grades while preparing your child for the next step into high school.
