"We just finished the seventh grade with Calvert. Before Calvert, I had used an eclectic approach. I switched to Calvert because I wanted to make sure my son's education was well rounded. In previous standardized tests, his scores were favorably skewed toward his areas of interest, such as science, but I was concerned that he was getting behind in areas he disliked, such as social studies and language mechanics. Well, after just one year of Calvert, his language mechanics score was at the 91st percentile with a grade equivalent of 'post high school.' Social Studies was at the 77th percentile with a grade equivalent of the 7th month of 11th grade. I could not believe it. And the learning was fairly painless. The other wonderful thing I can report is that his writing improved greatly. That is something not measured on standardized tests. I really liked how Calvert guided him through the writing process step by step. It made the process very manageable for a kid that does not like to write. We followed the lesson manual and tried to do most of the work; however, we felt free to reduce the amount of work as needed to fit our circumstances. I am really impressed that he improved in his weak areas so much in one year, while enjoying it. Oh yes, that's the other thing. He just loved knowing just what he had to do each day - unlike the days when I would be figuring it out as we went along. We were much more harmonious this year!"
