Calvert Home School Curriculum Overview

Developed in a classroom, proven in homes around the world

Home Schooling Mother and ChildThe Calvert home school curriculum is the fundamental platform that supports your teaching endeavors and the educational foundation your child will build on for life. For over one hundred years, Calvert School has helped Home Teachers guide their children toward excellence and achievement through an integrated, classical curriculum developed by our expert Curriculum staff and proven in the Calvert Day School.

A Comprehensive, Solid Foundation

The Calvert Home School program is built on a rich foundation of reading, writing, and arithmetic. That foundation is then layered with history, science, music, geography, and the arts to ensure no gaps in instruction. Calvert’s time-tested curriculum is built on the principle of subject integration. For instance, Calvert Fifth Grade students study the Civil War in history. At the same time, they also interpret Walt Whitman’s poem “O Captain! My Captain!” about Abraham Lincoln’s assassination and draft a composition entitled “A Civil War Battle.” This reinforced study across subject areas develops higher order thinking skills and promotes content mastery.

 Home Schooling Parent and Child

We combine the best classroom-tested materials, teacher-created Lesson Manuals, and proven educational methodologies all in one complete, meticulously planned curriculum. The Calvert Lesson Manual will guide you through each day of home instruction with easy-to-use lesson plans. Each lesson includes a list of materials needed, step-by-step instructions, and a summary of assignments. Everything you need for a full year of instruction is included in the Calvert box and delivered straight to your door.

Flexible Education Options

The Calvert Home School Program combines the tools and support you need to succeed with the flexibility you want to meet the personal needs and interests of your child. Lesson Manuals include instruction for engaging different learning styles. You can tailor your child’s education by selecting either the Academic or Scholastic version of our curriculum and by choosing a different Calvert Math grade level. In addition, you may select from a menu of instructional support options—Calvert Classic, the Advisory Teaching Service, and Calvert Interactive featuring the Advisory Teaching Service.

An Enriching Experience

In addition to our home school curriculum, we offer academic enrichment programs that will stir your child's creativity, foster a better understanding of the world, and make your overall educational experience more enjoyable. They are designed to complement the core courses, but they can also be used independently. Grade level and enrichment courses are available for Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. We invite you to contact our Education Counselors to discuss how Calvert’s education and enrichment programs can work for your family.

Calvert Boosts Test Scores

"After just one year of Calvert, his language mechanics score was at the 91st percentile with a grade equivalent of 'post high school.' Social Studies was at the 77th percentile with a grade equivalent of the 7th month of 11th grade. I could not believe it. And the learning was fairly painless. The other wonderful thing I can report is that his writing improved greatly."
